Indonesia grows. The world tastes.

Matcha Java was founded on a simple belief: Indonesia is not only capable of growing tea — Indonesia is capable of crafting world-class matcha.

For decades, matcha has been synonymous with Japan. And rightfully so — Japan has preserved its cultivation discipline and ceremonial precision for centuries.

But on the volcanic slopes of Indonesia, another story has been quietly unfolding.

A Heritage That Evolved

During the Japanese occupation of Indonesia, alongside the complex realities of history, agricultural techniques were introduced in several sectors, including tea cultivation. Stricter leaf selection, disciplined processing methods, and elevated quality standards became known to local farmers.

Time passed. Generations changed.

What remained was not imitation — but adaptation.

Indonesian growers refined those techniques under tropical skies, volcanic soil, and a different rhythm of nature.

Matcha Java is the continuation of that evolution.

Not a copy. Not a shadow. But Indonesia's interpretation of global standards.

Nature as Our Advantage

In Japan, matcha plants are traditionally shade-grown using specialized covering methods before harvest to enhance chlorophyll and L-theanine levels.

In Indonesia, nature provides a different approach.

Tea bushes grow beneath living shade trees such as Sengon tree and Erythrina tree gently filtering intense tropical sunlight while preserving soil moisture.

Many gardens are located on mineral-rich highlands and hillsides, and natural air circulation creates cool, shady conditions.

No synthetic coverings. No excessive intervention. Just the ecosystem and time.

Integrity & Halal Commitment

As an Indonesian brand stepping onto the global stage, we ensure that every stage of production upholds strict purity standards:

Our halal integrity is not merely market compliance — it is a commitment to clarity, inclusivity, and trust.
Premium quality should also mean ethical transparency.

F A Q

Find answers to common questions about our products and how to enjoy them.

Authentic Japanese matcha is made from shade-grown tea leaves, which are then finely ground using stone mills. The result is a bright green color with an umami flavor and a very fine texture.

Meanwhile, regular "green tea powder" generally:

  • Does not go through the shading process
  • Is ground more coarsely
  • Has a duller or yellowish color
  • Tastes more bitter and less creamy

In short: matcha = premium quality + umami, green tea powder = regular version that is more bitter.

Uji matcha is premium matcha originating from the Uji region in Kyoto—the legendary area producing the best tea in Japan.

Reasons it is more expensive:

  • Uji's soil and climate are highly ideal
  • Stricter production processes
  • High-quality tea leaves (first harvest)
  • Smoother taste, strong umami, minimal bitterness

Conclusion: You are paying for superior taste quality, origin, and processing.

Ceremonial grade:
Suitable for direct drinking (usucha/koicha), smooth taste, not bitter.

Culinary grade:
Suitable for lattes, desserts, and baking.

For a latte:
👉 Use premium culinary or latte grade, because:

  • The flavor holds up stronger when mixed with milk
  • It is more economical

Bitter matcha is usually due to:

  • Low quality
  • Water being too hot
  • Using too much powder
  • Incorrect whisking method

How to reduce bitterness:

  • Use water at 70–80°C (158–176°F)
  • Choose bright green matcha
  • Sift the powder before brewing
  • Add milk or a little sweetener

The ideal temperature for brewing matcha is 70–80°C (158–176°F).

Why is this important?

  • Too hot (>85°C) → bitter & astringent
  • Too cold → flavors won't fully extract

Practical tip:
After the water boils, let it sit for 3–5 minutes before using.

Without a chasen, you can use:

  • A shaker bottle
  • A milk frother
  • A spoon + rapid stirring technique

Steps:

  1. Sift 1–2 grams of matcha
  2. Add a small amount of warm water (30 ml)
  3. Stir until dissolved
  4. Add milk (cold or hot)

Key tip: always dissolve it with a little water first before adding milk.

Liquid matcha is matcha that has been pre-dissolved or comes as a ready-to-use concentrate.

Comparison:

  • More practical: Yes (just pour)
  • Healthier: Not necessarily, depending on added sugars/preservatives

Matcha powder remains:

  • More natural
  • More flexible
  • Generally free of additives

Matcha is highly sensitive to air, light, and heat.

Storage methods:

  • Store in an airtight container
  • Avoid direct sunlight
  • Keep in the refrigerator (optional, but seal tightly)
  • Consume within 1–2 months after opening

Signs of spoiled matcha: dull color, stale smell, sharp bitter taste.

General measurements:

  • Pure drinking (usucha): 1–2 grams (½–1 tsp) + 60–80 ml of water
  • Matcha latte: 2–3 grams + 150–200 ml of milk

Tips:

  • Lattes need more matcha so the flavor remains distinct
  • Don't use too much, or it can become bitter

Use Google Maps or Search with the keywords:
👉 "nearest matcha" or "matcha latte near me"

Check the following:

  • Matcha color photos (should be bright green, not brown)
  • Menu descriptions (avoid "matcha powder mix")
  • Reviews mentioning "not bitter" or "umami"
  • Specialty tea or coffee shops/cafes

Additional tip:
Ask directly: "Do you use real matcha or a premix?"
